What I Do:
I am the Campus Pastor of our new campus in the Celina/Prosper area, which we have identified as our Preston Campus of Christ Fellowship.
What I Love About Christ Fellowship:
I love the spirit of grace that is exhibited through imperfect people just like me.
How I Ended Up at Christ Fellowship:
Years ago my wife and I came randomly to the first weekend that Christ Fellowship (then McKinney Fellowship) opened up in the new gym. It was here that I experienced that refreshing grace from God, Bruce and the entire team.
Before Christ Fellowship:
I have been vocationally an associate pastor for over 15 years.
How I Met Jesus:
I met Jesus when I was 17 years old, when I was high on drugs. I went into my bedroom and tried to pray but didn’t know how. I wasn’t a church goer, and my only real understanding of prayer was from TV. I took my cue from several movies as I remember people kneeling to pray. I closed my eyes and prayed a simple prayer that went something like this, “God, I don’t know if you are real, but if you are not a fictional character like Alice in Wonderland or Huck Finn, then I will give you my life forever.” I hesitated for a moment, and slowly opened my eyes. When I did, I realized that I was no longer high on drugs and felt the peace of God in my soul. From that moment on, I have followed Jesus.
Favorite Bible Verse:
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”
Hobbies:
I’m addictive to fly-fishing; reading books; also love watching UFC fights (I know it doesn’t sound very pastoral but I love the competition), and anything related to football and working out.
Random Fun Fact:
In the late 80’s, I traveled nationally with a group of Christian athletes presenting value based assemblies to public schools and presented the gospel at local churches. And in 1989 we were featured on ABC News with Peter Jennings as “People of the Week.
More about David:
David was born and raised in the great state of Texas. From birth he was full of energy and always pushing to be the best for himself and creating passion in others to realize their God-given potential. God led him to study for ministry at Northwest University in Seattle, WA. It was here that he met his “southern bell” in the Northwest. He courted his college sweetheart, Kandi, for three years, and upon finishing their degrees, married in 1989. They have two growing boys, Luke and Levi, who keep the energy high and life incredibly fun.
Finishing his Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Literature in 1989, David began to empower young people through his speaking as he traveled throughout the United States conducting motivational assemblies in public schools and many of the leading churches in America. Peter Jennings of ABC News chose David and several colleagues as “People of the Week” for their work with our nation's youth in August of 1989.
After traveling extensively, David and Kandi then settled in to serving God within the local church primarily in the Pacific Northwest. As an associate pastor, Dave’s ministry portfolio included leading youth, singles, inner-city outreach, preaching, teaching and leading young adults at one of the largest churches in the Pacific Northwest, Life Center in Tacoma, WA (4,000 weekly attendance). Staying on passion, David continued to lead people to the next level of their God-given destiny as Lead Pastor in Bellingham, WA. Through David’s leadership gifts, God allowed attendance and financial growth to extend in tough economic times when most organizations where declining.
In the summer of 2009, David and Kandi had a strong sense that God was calling them to something radical and transforming. Through extensive prayer and counsel, David and Kandi began to see that God was carving out a journey to start a new church plant from the ground floor in Celina/Prosper, TX. After moving to the area, God had some amazing plans to forge Bruce Miller and Christ Fellowship together with Dave and Kandi for Kingdom purposes. Christ Fellowship - Preston officially launched their public services on August 7, 2011 at Reynolds Middle School in Prosper, TX. With God leading the way, they had their Grand Opening on September 11, 2011 and God has been building and growing the congregation into a tribe of authentic, real, and energized people. We encourage you to come and join us for "Life So Real!"
