one school... one class... one child at a time
The Adopt-A-School program is entering year three! Although we have had some great participation, there were many students at Webb Elementary last year waiting and hoping for a mentor. Many classes hoped to be adopted … perhaps this is the year you will join in!
Christ Fellowship is excited to partner with J. W. Webb Elementary School in the 3E McKinney Adopt-A-School program. Serving Webb is an opportunity for us to walk alongside the families, staff and students. Below are ways you can be involved as an individual or Life Group.

Each person volunteering in the school system must submit information for a background check via the McKinney ISD Website: mckinneyisd.net. To apply, click on “Parent Resources,” then “Volunteers” and fill in the information on the secure web page. Select Webb Elementary and any other schools of your choice. Once the application is processed and the criminal background check is complete, you will receive an e-mail notification regarding your application from the MISD Human Resources Department.
The most critical need in the Adopt-a-School program is in the area of student mentors. A mentor meets with a student once a week to serve as a role model, listening ear, cheerleader – someone special in the child’s life. Most mentors visit school during the student’s lunch time or even at breakfast. There are no special skills for being a mentor … just a caring heart! We had fewer than 30 mentors last year and there were many children on a waiting list who never had the benefit of a caring adult that came to school once a week.
Tutors are needed for grades 3 – 5. Teachers provide the lessons and materials. Please consider helping a student achieve success by tutoring once a week. Tutors are an extra boost for those learners who need even more support.
Teachers are always appreciative of a volunteer in the classroom. The teacher will have a variety of things for you to do that might include working with a small group of children, reading with students, monitoring a learning station, or helping to prepare materials. You get to know the kids and they look forward to your visits.
Teachers will be treated once a month (or more often!) with a special snack in the Teachers’ Lounge. Once or twice a month a small treat or note in teachers’ boxes would be an encouragement to the dedicated staff. A luncheon in the fall and again in the spring will be offered to celebrate the hard work of the teachers and staff.
Adopting a class is not limited to Life Groups! A couple or even a small group of friends could provide the amount of support to adopt a class. You are asked to pray for the teacher and students, help with occasional classroom activities, parties, or special needs of the classroom.
